The Tourist Destinations in Nigeria.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria, a Federal Constitutional Republic comprising of 36 states, and a Federal Capital Territory. Located in West Africa, it shares land borders with the Republic of Benin in the west, Chad and the Republic of Cameroon in the east, and Niger in the North. The administrative capital city is Abuja, while Lagos, a coastal city is the commercial capital. There are also other important coastal cities like Port Harcourt, Calabar and Warri, with seaports all in the southern part.

There are three international airports viz Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, and the Port Harcourt International Airport, and other domestic airports, and air strips located in various cities. The major system of transportation is by road. It also boasts a rich cultural heritage across the entire geographical land space. Typically, Nigerians are the most receptive and accommodating people you can find in the world. Nigeria is not just blessed by the vast natural resources like the crude oil, natural gas, uranium, tin, bauxite etc, but it is also blessed with vast human resources. That is why it is fast becoming the investors’ haven.

If you are a Nigeria for tourist visit, then you are in the right place. There are so many places that one can visit in Nigeria and experience the first hand hospitality of the people. Here are some places of interest to vist when you are in Nigeria, either on a visit, or as a resident, and I bet you won't regret the experience.

Obudu Ranch Resort

The Obudu Cattle Ranch is an old British settlement in Cross Rivers State, approximately 300km from Calabar the capital city. The Obudu ranch can be accessed by air with its small airstrip and a presidential helipad. There is also a cable car system that freights guests from the entrance to the ranch through the mountains. The breathtaking natural landscape, the hills and the thick vegetation are the photographers' delight.

Tinapa Business Resort

Again, Tinapa is another fantastic site to visit. It is a world class business and tourist resort equipped with shopping malls, games centres, fishing port and hotels and ideally located outside the commercial capital city of Calabar, so you don't need to drive through the city of Calabar to access Tinapa.

Olumo Rocks

If you are fascinated by highlands, then the Olumo rocks in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital in western Nigeria is a must-see. The rocks themselves are something else, loosed pieces placed on top one another in a delicate way, and yet have stood their grounds against erosion over years.
With so many caves in the mountains that were used as hiding places by the local egbas during the yoruba civil wars years back. Ogun State shares a common boundary with Lagos metropolis.

Yankari Games Reserve & Wikki Warm Springs
Undoubtedly, this is the first games reserve in Nigeria, which has continued to attract tourists all over the world. It spans an area of about 2000 sq km consisting of different wildlife including crocodiles, antelopes, monkeys etc. The Wikki warm springs adds glamour to this beautiful games park. Some natives believe it has healing powers. Located in the Northern state of Bauchi, and away from the hustle and bustle of the capital city.

Choosing Your Dream School Now!

A lot of prospective candidates to Nigerian universities, polytechnics and colleges of educations make the mistake of not doing their groundwork to know the institution that offer the best academic services. Though, there are lots of factors that make this difficult, but the author encourages all prospective undergraduates to explore different avenues before making their choices of programs.

Some of the things to consider when making decisions on what course to study are:

· Accreditation. It is very important for you to know if the program you want to undertake is accredited or not. You would not want to be registered for a course that has not been accredited. This may affect negatively your chance of getting a quality education. There is a regulatory body that is responsible for this accreditation.

· Also of importance is the pedigree of the institution offering those academic programs. There are so many institutions offering similar courses, but it is very important to know if these schools (universities, polytechnics, colleges of education) have the facilities e.g. conducive classrooms, libraries, laboratories, hostels, canteens and other functional utilities. Also, it is essential to have an idea of the qualifications of members of the academic staff, their commitment to lecturing etc. Most times, the lecturers in Nigerian public institutions are not very committed to teaching their students.

You can make use of the internet to check out from the list of websites of various Nigerian universities, polytechnics, colleges of education/nursing. You can take advantage of the information to know which school fits your vocation. Employ search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc to find sites that offer the program you want. You can also go to social sites like www.naijapal.com where you can get useful information from discussion forums. There are more that 76 listed universities alone (including private, state and federal) of which about 40 are fully accredited.

Again, you can ask from friends and family. Most of us are products of various Nigerian institutions, and so it is very likely that we have idea or bias about particular institutions.
